Upgrading to 6.0
6.0.0 is a major release. Read this page before you update: it lists what you have to check in your templates and settings. All changes are in the changelog.
Follow the update instructions. Make a backup of the files and the database first, and test the update on a copy of your site when you can.
Requirements
6.0.0 requires ExpressionEngine 7.3+ and PHP 8.2+. For ExpressionEngine 6 use the legacy package in the download (legacy/ee_email_form-v5.6.0.zip). The automatic migration from the old (EE2) Email Form module is removed.
Encryption key
The form is not rendered without a secret encryption_key in the config: an error is logged and Super Admins see a message instead of the form. ExpressionEngine sets this key during the installation; if your site has no key, set your own. See Encryption key.
Check your templates
Required fields
required_fields also fails for a field that is not posted at all, such as an unchecked checkbox. Remove a field that may stay empty (e.g. an optional checkbox) from required_fields. See Form tag.
Submitted values
- The submitted values are no longer parsed as ExpressionEngine tags in the
{email_template}or the form;{,}and quotes are shown as-is. See Custom variables. - The submitted values are HTML-escaped in
mailtype="html"emails and in{field_name:value}. - The captcha response fields (e.g.
g-recaptcha-response) are no longer available as variables in the{email_template}. See Email template.
File uploads
The form only gets enctype="multipart/form-data" when it contains a file input (<input type="file">). When the file input is not in the form tag itself, e.g. in an {embed} or added with JavaScript, set it with form_attr:enctype="multipart/form-data". See Form tag.
Removed tags and parameters
- The
current_urlparameter of the form tag is removed, it had no effect. - The unused
{exp:reinos_email_form:test_tag}tag and the{reinos_email_form_action_url}global variable are removed. - Use
form_attr:your-attr=""instead of anattr=""parameter on the form tag. See Form tag.
Check your settings
Minimum score
The new Minimum score setting of the invisible (score based) reCAPTCHA modes (Invisible and V3 Legacy (Invisible)) rejects submissions with a score below 0.5 by default. Check the Spam log for false positives after the update and lower the setting when it is too strict. See Control Panel.
Forms on an MSM install
The forms in the CP and the get_form tag are limited to the current site. The update assigns the existing forms to the first site: recreate a form on the other site(s) where you use it. See Control Panel.
After the update
- Clear your page cache (e.g. static page caching or a CDN): the form posts to its own
send_mailaction instead of the genericact_routeaction, and cached forms still post to the removed action. - When you open the add-on in the CP, the Submissions page is shown (the Settings page when
Save submissionsis disabled).
For developers
- The installer uses the ExpressionEngine 7 add-on installer and migrations, and the control panel pages use the ExpressionEngine 7 control panel routes.
- The control panel CSS and JavaScript hooks behind the removed
{reinos_email_form_action_url}global variable are removed.
